Anyone who lived through the Covid-19 pandemic and 2020 election year in the United States will have heard the term "fake news" referred to quite frequently. Those big events really just drew attention to the reality of the information cycle in this day and age with 24/7 access and freedom of speech extending to the internet where anyone can pose as an "expert" and where the information spreads like wildfire with little to no vetting of research. Don't get me wrong, the internet has a wealth of information and makes it much easier to access for the general public. This is all the more reason that we should be teaching our students how to identify quality resources and pick out tell-tale signs of fake news. Can you recognize what is truth and what is fiction?
The following is a digital curation of resources to be used to teach students to recognize fake news and doctored pictures. These resources range from elementary level methods, step-by-step processes like the CRAP test, games and videos, and actual lesson plans for K-12 teachers to introduce to their students. I hope you find it useful!
